Answering the questions about Muhammad’s Eleven Wives (and the Qur’anic Limit of Four Wives)

The Quranic limit is for the Muslims.

The marriages were allowed for Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w. and when they were limited,it is also mentioned in Quran.

Not lawful to you, [O Muhammad], are [any additional] women after [this], nor [is it] for you to exchange them for [other] wives, even if their beauty were to please you, except what your right hand possesses. And ever is Allah , over all things, an Observer.(33:52)

The Marriages of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w helped Islam and Muslims in many ways:

1.The spread of Islam among women.

2.The marriages where the people were hesitant e.g the divorcee of adopted son.

3.The marriages with such age groups or in such cases whereby the Muslims could be hesitant e.g the elder women or the women who propose themselves.

4.Helping the widows.

5.Creating family ties.
